August 11-17, 2025, Turin
September 1-5, Wien
September 17-22, Jerusalem
The primary aim of the Legal History & Palaeography Clinics is to provide low-threshold, short but intensive access to manuscript sources connected with jurisdiction and administration. The Legal History & Palaeography Clinics have been offered since 2022 by the team Wendehorst of the Institute for Legal and Constitutional History at the University of Vienna in cooperation with archives and libraries. The clinics typically offer courses at different levels for the following languages German, Jewish languages (Hebrew, Judeo-German, Yiddish) and Latin. In the beginners' courses, the focus is on acquiring the skills to deal competently and critically with original sources. In the courses at the more advanced levels, more legal history is taught. The sources used for teaching come from the Wendehorst team's research projects on Law & Empire, (Jewish) Law, (Jewish) History & Theory and International Law or are provided by the participants themselves.
